Choosing God’s Healing

In “Healing is a Choice” author Stephen Arterburn explains that  we each have a choice of whether or not we want to be healed and made whole. That choice starts with our connection with God. He writes: “We begin by acknowledging that he exists and that we want a new or renewed relationship with him.” Healing does not start when we pray really hard or ask for a miracle. Healing begins by asking to be better connected to God. This is what changes religion into something more: a relationship with God. This is also what stops you from seeing God as a Genie who grants wishes (prayers). Arterburn continues:

“We build this connection through the study of God’s Word, meditation and prayer. In studying God’s Word we can revitalize our connection every day. In prayer we sustain this connection. We learn about him, spend time with him, and then modify our behavior to please him. Changing our behavior and choosing to do what is right are ways we can strengthen our connection to God.”

“As we live more for him and live more to please him, we experience a growing awareness of his presence and an intimate connection that takes us through the toughest times with hope and the best times with divine joy. So if you are tired of running your own life, running from God, and running from others, consider what God promises when you connect with him and trust in him. Jesus provided a life-changing challenge for us all:”

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me–watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn how to live freely and lightly. [Matthew 11:28-30  The Message]

“Keeping company with God is a great way to live. It brings comfort and rest and a path to be free.”
