About Anointing

“You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

Christ Followers believe God continually pours out his Spirit on those who come to him. Not all Christians, however, agree on how this happens and when. Here at Church of the Spirit we focus on helping you experience the changes that can take place in your life and your relationships when you are living in God’s Spirit. Our purpose is to bring you into a closer relationship with God through Jesus, and then, to help you enter into God’s presence.

We believe it is in his presence that great things can, and will, happen. The songs and prayers of our worship services along with the sacraments of Anointing and Communion, give us well established ways to continually enter God’s presence. As we enter into his presence we can then ask God to enter our hearts.

We offer you a chance each month to receive the Sacrament of Anointing during our services. This special kind of prayer (like Communion and Baptism) is always lead by an ordained priest and is different from the prayers offered by the Prayer Team during our other services.

When Pastor Roger anoints you, he will make the sign of the cross on your forehead with the specially blessed oil. He will then offer a brief prayer for you to receive the power of God’s Spirit to bring you healing, whether in body, mind, or soul. You don’t need to be baptized to receive the anointing, and you don’t need any reservations either. It’s OK to just come forward when you see others lining up, and let the Spirit lead you, and fill you.

The anointings will be available during Communion and the music that follows, or as part of the service specifically designed to include it, at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services once a month, by custom on the second Sunday of each month at 9:00 and on the fourth Sunday of the month at 11:00.
